Experience of crime / anti-social behaviour [Q2]

75% of respondents have experienced crime or anti-social behaviour during the past 2 years. Of particular significance has been vandalism of, or theft from, vehicles [over 40% of respondents in each case], and in the case of businesses, burglary or vandalism of their premises [45% and 24% respectively]

Fear of crime / anti-social behaviour [Q6]

90% of business respondents are either very or quite worried about loss of, or damage to, vehicles. All but one [80%] of the residents owning a vehicle are very worried about loss or damage to their vehicles.

Of business respondents, 66% are very or quite worried about burglary at their premises, 58% about vandalism or theft of other personal property, and 50% about robbery or mugging.

Of greatest concern to residents are abusive behaviour [47%], arson and physical assault [both 40%], and theft of other personal property [33%1.

Feeling of safety [Q8]

While 88% of respondents feel very or quite safe by day, 67% feel very or quite unsafe by night.

Important measures to reduce crime and / or make people feel safer in Little Germany [Q16]

Over two thirds of respondents state that more police patrols on foot [69%] and introduction of security cameras [67%] would most reduce crime, followed by more police car patrols [53%], police targeting of known criminals [47%], improved quality of street lighting [43%] and increased amount of street lighting [41%].

Generally the same measures, but in slightly amended order, are likewise felt to be those most likely to make respondents feel safer: more police patrols on foot [63%], introduction of security cameras [59%], increased amount of street lighting [49%], improved quality of street lighting [45%] and more police car patrols [39%]. In both case, more police foot patrols and CCTV are the most popular responses.

Views on additional CCTV cameras [Q211

95% of business respondents and all the residents state there should be more CCTV cameras either where there is a lot of crime or where people feel particularly unsafe [45 %], or throughout the District [5 1 %].

Location for CCTV cameras [Q221

70% of respondents [including all but one of the residents] identified locations where they believe it is very or quite important to install CCTV cameras within Little Germany.
