1 in 12 Club is under threat

Rock On's Gill Gosling gives a personal view on the crisis

T&A, 9 May 1985

THERE are fears that Bradford’s 1 in 12 Club may be forced to shut down.

Young people In the city must act NOW to voice their opinions on the club. Supporters - it needs your help. The 1 in 12, which meets at the Market Tavern pub in Bradford, is a well-run, badly needed facility for youngsters.

It provides a cheap venue for people, particularly those on the dole, to see some interesting and energetic bands. There is nowhere else in the city which can give young people what the 1 in 12 does.

Its name is known nationally as a place where many up and coming Indie bands play. It has been a fine promotion for the city on the music front. Anyone who wants to put the council in the picture as to the running of the venue and the popularity of the bands it puts on, should write to the council’s unemployment unit at City Hall, Bradford.

Last year the 1 in 12 had more than 1,000 members. It’s up to you to fight now to keep it.
